Create the Niagara System
~1 minRight-click in the Content Browser → FX → Niagara System. Select New system from selected emitter(s) and pick the Simple Sprite Burst template. Name it NS_ProjectileTrail.
We start from Simple Sprite Burst instead of Empty because it pre-configures the emitter lifecycle. We'll strip out the burst behavior and convert it to continuous spawning.
Double-click to open the Niagara Editor. You should see one emitter with a standard sprite renderer. Delete the Burst Instantaneous spawn module — we'll replace it next.
Configure Continuous Spawning
~2 minIn the Emitter panel, click the + next to Emitter Update and add a Spawn Rate module.
Next, set particle Lifetime:
A spawn rate of 60 with 0.3–0.5s lifetime means ~18–30 particles alive at once. Very cheap — even mobile can handle this.
Add the Ribbon Renderer
~2 minThis is where the magic happens. Select your emitter, then under Render, remove the default Sprite Renderer and add a Ribbon Renderer.
The Ribbon Renderer connects sequential particles into a smooth, continuous strip — exactly what a projectile trail looks like. Configure:
If your trail looks jagged, increase the spawn rate. Ribbons connect particles in order — too few particles = angular connections.
